Trust me

On October 5-12 2021, our foundation together in close cooperation with our partners from Italy, Lithuania, Romania, and Greece organized a youth exchange under the title "Trust me".

The key goal of our project is to increase the awareness of the trust crisis which surrounds such institutions as government, media, and business. We also experience big crises of trust in science, experts, and technology. As a consequence of trust crises, fringe movements such as antivaccination groups, far-right/far-left movements are gaining importance. At the same time, trust is the foundation for the balanced growth of every society. For these reasons, our goal is to create viable solutions, mechanisms, rules which will help to rebuild trust in both institutions as well as science and experts. Trust is frequently referred to as the social glue which enables "healthy" cooperation in even the most diversified societies. Still, over the last few years, we observe the continuous decline in trust in government, media, businesses, and even NGOs. According to the recent studies by Edelman, the decline of trust reached catastrophic levels thus undermining the pillars of the majority of OECD countries. This trend was especially visible in 2020, the year in which Covid took a great toll on most countries around the globe. The trust levels are particularly low among the millennials, who are more likely to spurn vaccination than any other group. Lack of trust can also contribute to the deceleration of integration processes in the European Union. Consequently, our organization and our partners, and most important youth are convinced that projects focusing on the development of tools, methods, reforms which increase levels of trust in society are of particular importance. During our project, we will pay special attention to the trust in the internet, social platforms, new technologies, science, and experts as well as the government. Within the scope of our project, we have identified a few detailed objectives which are aligned with the overall goals of the Erasmus+ program. These are:

  1. To create a set of good practices focused on the strengthening of trust in the internet by increasing the reliability of information published on the World Wide Web and on social networks.
  2. To define key reforms in western democracies, which when implemented increase the levels of trust in western governments.
  3. To define changes required to increase the trust in experts, science, and technology.
